Hi HCIBench Team,
Is the HCIBench impacted by Log4j problems? any fixing for that?

Dec 23, 2021

the only component i can recall may involve log4j is tomcat, and i did check tomcat, found no log4j was configured, so we should be good here.

really appreciate for your quick checking and response.

here is the prove in catalina.out:

catalina.out:ERROR StatusLogger No log4j2 configuration file found. Using default configuration: logging only errors to the console.

Hello HCIBench Team,

Has a way been identified to either:

- ControlJSON timesteps: currently all results in the JSON are in 5 seconds intervals which seems in line with Grafana's minimum step but would be beneficial to control to provide flexibility in its reporting precision and resolution.

- FIO log files don't seem to output to the results folder. I've used the write_bw_log, write_lat_log and write_iops_log (with log_avg_msec to control timestep averaging) in my configuration files with the hope of using these with fio_generate_plots or fio_plot plotting tools, however, in the results folder for a particular run they are no where to be found, which seems to contradict the guides statement that all FIO original files should be there.

Additionally, is there an update of HCIBench coming with an up-to-date FIO (or means to manually update this)? Currently the HCIBench_2.6.1.ova release has FIO 3.16 but the FIO release on Github is currently at FIO 3.7.
Seeming as both functionality, permission and bug reduce occurs often with FIO releases, a means to manually update this would be extremely beneficial in lieu of in-line HCIBench releases.

Thank you!

Having had a bit more of a dig, I have concluded the JSON intervals cannot be reduced further as "eta-interval" would typically allow this, but cannot be defined in the configuration file (causes an error with HCIBench), and I assume in the HCIBench source code this is set to align with Grafana.

Feature Requests:
- Mass import of configuration files - it's a bit tedious to bring them in one at a time.
- Update capability for FIO and VDBench so that these can be updated as required.
- Ensuring log files are copied over to results sub-folders as these are useful to get refined results and post-process via additional tools (i.e. fio_generate_plots or fio_plot). Requires the write_<bw/lat/iops>_log to be defined in the configuration file and additional parameters to tune results presentation in the log text file output.
- Ability for HCIBench to tolerate "stonewall" in the configuration files for serialisation. Beneficial if a user writes a configuration file with serialised jobs. HCIBench currently finishes at the first stonewall statement. Example is sequential tests that are similar and could be defined in a single file rather than over many.

Thanks for the great work on HCIBench - it is a really handy tool!

Verify config looks good. I use FIO for the benchmarking tool option. My datastore is NFS vers 3.

I would appreciate some advice please.

it's complaining about the vcenter credential, can you double check?

Hello,
Any plan to support deploy and run IO for Tanzu container?
Thanks a lot

yes, this is on my radar.

Hi Wei,

Any Timeline for that?

Thanks a lot
