#298 Keys not sending on two separate hosts after upgrade to v1.33.1

  • brimur • Feb 08, 2019

I have two standalone ESXi 6.7 hosts that were prompted to update to v1.33.1. Neither can now sent ctrl alt del or any other keys to VMs. Tested with numerous Windows server VMs (ctrl alt del) and Linux VMs (starting a process and then sending Ctrl + C )

I have the same problem. I'm stuck because with a Windows 2000 server I can not use remote desktop to access ...

Same here, all the ESXi with v1.33.1 have this problem! Please fix the bug.

Thanks for reporting. I've found the source of the problem. The next release will include a fix.

When will the next release be? This can take weeks i guess.
Is there a workaround to fix it myself?

Finally i found out, it works if you use Edge-Browser.
But not working with chrome or firefox.

We are in June 2019 and the latest version 6.7U2 still has the issue. There is no way to unlock a Windows VM as all keystrokes are rejected in the web console if using any other web browser than Edge on Microsoft Windows. Working with Mac computers has become tiresome with this version of ESXi as we have to use other tools just to unlock the Windows VMs. Any ETA for a fix?

I don't understand how the fix has not been released yet after more than half a year. Nevertheless, I was able to come up with a "oneliner" workaround after a few hours. You can execute this in your browser's Javascript console:
    ['ControlLeft', 'AltLeft', 'Delete'].forEach(function(code){document.getElementById('mainCanvas').dispatchEvent(new KeyboardEvent('keydown', {code:code, bubbles:true}))})

Of course you can change the keys to other ones. Possible values are listed in this table:

This was tested in a separate console tab/window in Chromium.
